How can a school be structured to center the experiences of Multilingual Learners? San Francisco International High School was founded in 2009, serves 100% recently arrived immigrant and refugee students in grades 8 – 12, and provides an “empowering, safe, and supportive environment where students, families, staff, and community are partners that develop confident leaders and active participants who work collaboratively for change.” In this visit, participants will examine resources from the school, hear from students and staff, and observe classrooms in order to surface the instructional practices and structures in place to support students. Participants will see how aspects of the Internationals Approach, such as heteoreneity, collaboration, and project-based learning come to life so that students can learn language and content in all classes. Visitors will also debrief and reflect on what they can take back with them to their own respective school communities.
