July 30 & 31, 2025

9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Oakland International High School, 4521 Webster St, Oakland, CA 94609

In addition to our network schools, this year we are opening our doors to the larger community, and hoping to build and support a wider network of practitioners in their mission to provide meaningful education for students who are new to the country.

Our Workshops:

Core Principles

What are the Core Principles of the Internationals Approach and how do they appear in our school communities? Participants will rotate through interactive stations exploring each principle through videos, resources, and curriculum to learn how each core principle is embodied in practice. Great for both new and returning Internationals educators.

Language and Content Integration

How can we strengthen our capacity as language teachers in our content classes? Through stations, hands-on activities, and collaborative discussion, participants will engage with language functions, reflect on their own classroom experiences, and examine how to embed language supports into project-based units.

Experiencing Conversation and Discussion Strategies

How can we help all students engage in meaningful academic conversations in English? Try out and reflect on proven strategies that build student voice, foster inclusive, purposeful conversations, and reflect on how to implement them in your own classroom.

Internationals Foundational Workshops

Day 1

  • Experiencing the Internationals Approach (AM): This workshop is a useful introduction to the Internationals Approach as it puts participants in the shoes of their students, and helps them gain first hand knowledge of the benefits of teaching using the techniques from Internationals.
  • Core Principles of the Internationals Approach (PM): What are the Core Principles of the Internationals Approach and how do they appear in our school communities? Participants will rotate through interactive stations exploring each principle through videos, resources, and curriculum to learn how each core principle is embodied in practice. Day 2: Language & Content Integration
