How can a school be structured to center the experiences of Multilingual Learners? Claremont International High School was founded in the Bronx in 2012, serves 100% recently arrived immigrant and refugee students in grades 9 – 12, and provides an environment for students to “cultivate intellectual curiosity, advance critical-thinking skills, and develop empathy as global citizens through the integration of language and the arts in all classes.” In this visit, participants will examine resources from the school, hear from students and staff, and observe classrooms in order to surface the instructional practices and structures in place to support students. Participants will see how aspects of the Internationals Approach, such as heteoreneity, collaboration, and project-based learning come to life so that students can learn language and content in all classes. Visitors will also debrief and reflect on what they can take back with them to their own respective school communities.
